You can check the trade-in value of the laptop with Apple for the worst-case scenario for resale when they release the new models.
So if you need a laptop NOW, buy a $500 MacBook Pro. I have Office 365 installed, Zoom, Teams etc. In all seriousness, this 9 year old MacBook is doing everything I need it to for office work. Battery doesn't last long but it's so nice I ordered an iFixit battery that I'll install. Core i7, 8GB RAM, 512GB upgraded SSD in pretty much mint condition. So in the meantime, I (seriously) bought a $300 late 2012 MacBook Pro 13' retina. I'm waiting on the new models, and my Huawei Matebook X Pro started suffering some odd problems just before the three year warranty is up, so I sent it in for repair (likely getting a $1600 refund as it is unrepairable). There are new models coming out in a matter of weeks.
